Where to go for Prom Advice

Where can you go for good prom advice? One of the most obvious choices would be a close relative such as your mother, aunt or sister. With vintage dresses and jewelry in style your grandmother would be a good source as well. You can receive excellent prom advice from an older girlfriend who has been there and done that too. Prom advice is something that any formal wear or bridal shop is ready to give out as well, at least when it comes to prom attire and accessories.

Prom advice is best taken from more than one source and from both male and female advice givers. If you are a guy and are looking for prom advice sometimes the best source is a girl. Ask your dates best friends or your sister and her best friends. They can give you some of the best prom advice that a guy could want. They know women and they know what women want.

Asking a girl to prom

How do you ask a girl to prom? My sons have asked me the same question and there are so many ways to ask a girl to prom that it could take you forever to research them all. Sometimes the way you ask a girl to prom can be even more fun than the prom itself!

There are many ways to describe the ways to ask a girl out to prom—traditional, classy, crazy, and creative. If you are really organized and really creative you can plan a whole theme for prom from before and after activities to how you ask a girl to prom and have it all coordinate. Lets use just one example of how this would work. You could ask a girl to prom by having a royal messenger or page read a proclamation to her dressed in full renaissance garb. You could go to a jousting event for your day activity and then pick her up in your suit of armor (which you would then remove later for comfort and be dressed in your tux or even royal robes) while riding a white horse. This might not work in some areas such as a large city but you get the idea.

After prom activities

What kind of activities sound like fun for after prom? It used to be that proms were so stuffy with just a ring of the doorbell, a ride to the dance and then some punch there but times have changed. Now after prom is just as important as the prom itself as well as the activities you engage in before prom, in the day.

What are some fun things to do after prom? There are so many choices that the first thing you want to do is find out from others what they have done and get their opinions. Also consider how many of your party will be engaging in after prom activities. Will your whole group want to go or just a few?

Prom Corsages

Corsages are a traditional accessory for prom. You can buy corsages or if you are really creative you can make your own corsage.

Corsages are not mandatory but they can be a great memento for your date as she dries it and puts it on display in a case or arrangement. Corsages can add style to a simple dress and also act as a beautiful perfume when flowers with rich scents are chosen. A corsage can actually come in different styles than the one that you can make above. Corsages can be worn in wreaths in the hair, as a choker necklace, as leis, worn on the wrist or pinned to the shoulder or waist of the dress.

Late and still no prom date

Its just days away from your prom and you still don’t have a date? Well don’t despair. Even if you have waited until the last minute to find a prom date you really still can. It will take a little bit of finesse but you can do it. Your biggest question is how do I find a prom date, right? Well maybe that is what kept you from finding a prom date until now—you just don’t know how. We can help you with just a few tips on how to find your prom date, the rest is up to you!

  1. Get the world working on finding you a prom date, at least your corner of the world. Tell friends and family that you are looking for that special someone to take to prom. It might seem embarrassing to be so needy but if no one knows you’re available you better pop some popcorn and plan on a date with your TV.
  2. Brainstorm. Make a list of everyone you know, your friends know and even who your family knows. Enlist your mom in making some calls to her friends in the next town etc.
  3. Be creative. Post a sign in your yard saying “prom date available here”.  If you are having fun about it you are going to attract some fun prom date that is just waiting for you. Pass out flyers. Get your friends at the school newspaper to put in an ad or put you up for auction.
  4. Ask the most gorgeous girl or most handsome guy. Yeah, they might have their prom date already but sometimes everyone assumes that and never asks them to be their prom date.
  5. Check out the rebound material. If Suzy or Joe just broke up with Mark and Annie then you know they are all available. Listen to the grapevine and you’ll find out who they are.

Prom dress accessories: Jewelry

Accessories are a vital part of looking great for prom and prom jewelry is the most fun accessory to use. You can go heavy on the prom jewelry or go light but it is important to make sure it complements not overpowers your dress. Prom jewelry can be used on the upper arms, wrists, fingers, neck, ears, hair and even the nose and navel. The best prom jewelry will be jewelry that you can wear comfortably all night long and that won’t interfere with dancing and all the other activities of your prom night.

There are many resources to access when buying your prom jewelry. You can buy prom jewelry online through thousands of different websites. You can also shop from catalogs or buy from prom jewelry shops in your local mall. Another good source for vintage prom jewelry are your mother’s or grandmother’s jewelry boxes. You can also shop estate sales, yard sales, and antique shops or pawn shops for prom jewelry.
